How would you love to taste test some of the BEST cupcake recipes around. Well now you can, if you live in the New York area that is... Lucky East Coasters!!

"The shortening will come out shortly for the “Autumn Cake Party,” which will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, at Schenectady County Community College. The festival will be held from 5 until 7 p.m.

Ten cakes have been chosen for 350-degree treatment, picked from about 250 recipes submitted by Daily Gazette readers. They are now in the hands of faculty and students at SCCC’s nationally accredited American Culinary Federation culinary arts program. Pans and ovens await.

The batter ideas, in alphabetical order, are:
-- Blueberry cake, from Ruth E. Bergeron of Schenectady.
-- Butterscotch-pumpkin cake, from Susan D. Bramer of Schoharie.
-- Cape Cod autumn cake, from Priscilla Marx of Niskayuna.
-- Celebration sponge cake, from Joanne Coppola of Schenectady.
-- Elvis cupcakes, from Norma J. Soodsma of Fort Johnson.
-- Praline pumpkin torte, from Joan M. Fairman of Rotterdam.
-- Sue’s Hawaiian carrot cake, from Sue Brown of Rotterdam.
-- Sweet potato layer cake, from Joanne Langley of Rotterdam.
-- Touch of the Island key lime crunch cake, from Mary Ann Hilton of Schenectady.
-- White Russian cake, from Nancy Caparulo of Galway.

Tickets available

To participate in the taste test, people must buy tickets — priced at $9 — in advance.
They are available at The Gazette, 2345 Maxon Road Ext.; SCCC’s bookstore on the college’s Washington Avenue campus; and at the Price Chopper supermarkets at Eastern Parkway and McClellan Street in Schenectady, Altamont Avenue in Rotterdam, Balltown Road in Niskayuna and Route 50 in Glenville.

Only cash sales will be transacted at The Gazette and at SCCC.
Proceeds will benefit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York."
